Resources

  • Foundation Directory Enterprise provides grantmaker profiles for over 150,000 foundations, public charities, and corporate giving programs. Profiles for grant recipients are also included in the database. Unlike the publicly available 990 forms, this database can be searched by geographic location of grantmaker or nonprofit program/activities, field of interest, recipient type and location, type of grant award, type of grantmaker, and more. Grantmaker profiles can easily be downloaded or exported by e-mail. This database is extremely useful to nonprofit organizations seeking grants. It can also be utilized by grantmakers to gather information about the state of philanthropy in a given area. UNT affiliated users can access Foundation Directory Enteprise from anywhere on campus or remotely via the UNT vpn. Non-UNT users can access the database from one of the community workstations in Sycamore Library.

  • Reference Solutions provides directory information for more than 12 million U.S. businesses, government organizations, and residential listings. The information is compiled from the following public sources: more than 5,600 Yellow Page and Business White page telephone directories annual reports, 10-Ks, other financial information provided by the SEC, Chamber of Commerce information, and other sources.

  • Guidestar is a searchable directory that provides detailed information on many nonprofit organizations. It includes IRS-registered 501 nonprofit organizations that may accept tax-deductible contributions. Profiles of these organizations cover missions, programs, financials, leaders, and the IRS 990 filing from 1998 forward in most cases.

Sycamore Library has a collection of print books that cover nonprofit topics such as board development, financial management of nonprofits, fundraising, grant writing, volunteer management, program development, program assessment, and more. Circulating books can be checked out to UNT students, staff and faculty, and to community members with a Denton County driver license or identification card.
