The current focus of the traffic management technology group is to implement promising new technologies and emerging technology in traffic simulation and demand management. Seven major initiatives include:
  1. Integrated traffic management systems
  2. Communication technology in traffic control systems
  3. Traffic network simulation
  4. Equipment and software for computerized traffic control systems and Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems (IVHS)
  5. Research in traffic demand management to relieve traffic congestion
  6. Highway incident management
  7. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and video imaging applications
