The increased need for pump stations to dispose of depressed highway storm water runoff has highlighted the need for better design information. As a result of this need, a three-fold program is being developed. The three parts of the program are:
- Preparation of a practical pump station manual containing current pump station design and practice. The manual will be designated Hydraulic Engineering Circular (HEC) No. 23.
- Development of a computer program to aid the designer in the development of pump station plans and specifications.
- Development of a one day training course to instruct designers in the proper procedures for designing highway storm water pump stations.
The contract has been awarded to Parsons Brinkerhoff with Peter Smith as the project manager. The contract went into effect on October 1, 1997 and is expected to be complete in two years.
