Highway Hydrology
Nothing Watered Down Here

In 1984, the FHWA published the Hydraulic Engineering Circular "Hydrology" (HEC-19). The circular has been used extensively by hydraulic engineers and was the subject of a NHI training course. Over the years new research has lead to suggestions to update and improve the materials.

A project was initiated to develop a new manual, based on HEC-19, which would, in addition, include information on arid lands hydrology, stormwater management, the national flood hydrograph study, GIS and revisions to sections from the Soil Conservation Service. The new manual, "Highway Hydrology" has been included in the Hydraulic Design Series and is designated HDS-2.

The project was completed in 1996. "Highway Hydrology" has been printed and distributed to all FHWA field offices and state highway agencies. HDS-2 is a resource for NHI Course No.13067 Practical Highway Hydrology. It will be distributed to all course participants.

Limited copies of "Highway Hydrology" (HDS-2), Publication No. FHWA-SA-96-067 are available from R&T Report Center. Additional copies are available from the National Technical Information Service, Springfield, Virginia.
