Workshops on Integrating Transportation Information Purpose of Workshops
Our transportation world is constantly changing. Transportation professionals are being asked to deal with continually changing environments, while taking a more enterprise level approach. The purpose of this FHWA-sponsored workshops is to introduce transportation professionals, from state and localtransportation agencies in particular, to the basic concepts of developing, implementing, and maintaining an Integrated Transportation Information System (ITIS). An ITIS is the fusion of all transportation information systems into a single and comprehensive information system architecture, to best support transportation agency business purposes. In the context of the business functions of a transportation agency, the workshop also presents applications of an ITIS, and the associated enabling technologies. Workshop Topics The workshops explain the benefits of integrating information, and practical aspects of building an ITIS. They review the changing needs of agencies, and introduce available tools, techniques, methodologies, and frameworks to aid in establishing a more integrated information environment. Organization of Workshops
There are three distinct ITIS workshops. The first is for the Executive Management Team. It consists of a 30 minute Executive Briefing. The second is a half day workshop for managers. Managers will receive information on the implementation of an ITIS, and on how to evaluate the status of ITIS within an agency. The Executive Briefing will summarize the Managers Workshop, with additional emphasis on the benefits of ITIS to an agency. Based on the recommendations received in the Managers Workshop, a third workshop is typically set up at a later date for practitioners. This 1 or 2 day workshop is more technical in nature. By choosing from a menu of available modules, the host can customize this workshop to address specific information, management needs, interests, and opportunities. Why Should You Attend these Workshops After participating in these workshops you will understand the broad concept of an ITIS, be aware of the various management approaches and business processes used to implement an ITIS, and be exposed to the latest technologies that enable you to develop, implement, and maintain an ITIS. Free Workshop Delivered at Your Agency This workshop is sponsored by the FHWA Office of Technology Applications (OTA), Washington DC. The workshops will be presented to requesting agencies across the U.S. This workshop will be made available at no cost to transportation agencies.
Agencies may select 4, 8, or 12 elective modules depending upon the length of their workshop.
