Oral histories fill in the gaps in the written record by preserving the memories of individuals who have been eye-witnesses to, or participants in, historic events. The UNT collection consists of approximately 1,700 bound volumes of interviews. The transcripts were generated by the UNT Oral History Program in the university’s History Department and the UNT College of Business Administration.
A sample of subjects covered in the oral histories includes:
- Texas politics and politicians
- Local African American history
- Entrepreneurial history
- the Holocaust
- The new Deal
- Women’s history
- Community history
- World War II.
The Oral History Program has made an index the oral history collection, which includes their own interviews as well as the ones created by th UNT College of Business Administration. You can access it on line at the Oral History Program website.
