Highlights of specific items in the collections: National Society Sons of the American
Revolution
Throughout the first half of the 20th century, delegates and their families attending the Annual Congresses of the Sons of the American Revolution would receive ornate badges to wear as name-badges, and as souvenirs of the Congress.
This particular example, from the 16th Congress, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, features a view of Independence Hall.
The reverse of the pendant shows the mark of the maker, J. E. Caldwell & Co., of Philadelphia, a well-known jeweler of the period. The Medal is suspended from and against a ribbon of blue and yellow - the colors of the society. At the top, on the back, is a metal pin for wearing the badge. This badge was presented to the TXSSAR Archives in August 2005 in honor of Mr. Donald L. Stone, member of the Freedom Chapter, Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution, in recognition of his strong support of the Archives.
