Highlights of specific items in the collections: National Society Sons of the American
Revolution
A special Congress was held in Paris in 1983 to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Treaty of Paris, which recognized the independence of the United States of America. This special medal was created for attending Sons of the American Revolution members.
The medal is based on the "Libertas Americana" medal designed by Augustin Dupre in 1778. The front shows the head of Liberty, with a liberty cap on a pole behind her.
The reverse of the pendant shows Minerva using a French royal shield to protect the infant Hercules from a British lion. The Medal is suspended from a ribbon of white, blue and yellow - the colors of the society.
