1947 Delegate's badge, National Congress, Sons of the American Revolution

Throughout the first half of the 20th century, delegates and their families attending the Annual Congresses of the Sons of the American Revolution would receive ornate badges to wear as name-badges, and as souvenirs of the Congress.

Detail of 1947 Delegate's badge.

This particular example, from the 57nd Congress, held in Huntington, West Virginia, is shaped like the state of West Virginia.

This badge was collected by Mr. Clovis H. Brakebill, a former President General of the Sons of the American Revolution.  Mr. Brakebill gave it to Dr. James J. Johnson, who deposited it in the TXSSAR Archives in March 2004.
