Highlights of specific items in the collections: National Society Sons of the American
Revolution
Throughout the first half of the 20th century, delegates and their families attending the Annual Congresses of the Sons of the American Revolution would receive ornate badges to wear as name-badges, and as souvenirs of the Congress.
This particular example, from the 50th, or "Golden Anniversary" Congress, held in New London, Connecticut, is shaped like the state of Connecticut, and features a replica of the statue of Nathan Hale on the front of the pendant.
The reverse of the pendant has Hale's immortal words "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country".
At the base of the suspension bar is a tiny enamelled representation of the badge of the Society. The badge is still affixed to it's original card, with the manufacturer's name. This badge was collected by Mr. Clovis H. Brakebill, a former President General of the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Brakebill gave it to Dr. James J. Johnson, who deposited it in the TXSSAR Archives in March 2004.
