Highlights of specific items in the collections: National Society Sons of the American
Revolution
Throughout the first half of the 20th century, delegates and their families attending the Annual Congresses of the Sons of the American Revolution would receive ornate badges to wear as name-badges, and as souvenirs of the Congress.
This particular example, from the 32nd Congress, held in Buffalo, New York, features the profile of George Washington set as the center of an 8-pointed star. Around the portrait of Washington is a ribbon emblazoned with the name of the Society, and below is a miniature replica of the insignia of the Sons of the American Revolution.
The reverse of the pendant is inscribed with the date and location of the Congress. The suspension pin at top has a place for a card with the delegate's name, and is surmounted by a figure of a buffalo, a reminder of where the Congress was held. This badge was collected by Mr. Donald L. Stone, member of the Freedom Chapter, Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Stone donated it to the TXSSAR Archives in May 2004.
