DESCRIPTION:
This document describes four steps to planning a child pedestrian safety program, including
determining the size of the child pedestrian problem, preparing a draft plan, presenting the draft
plan to key participants and organizations for comments and suggestions, and revising and
distributing the final plan for action. Other topics covered include key issues for planning
considerations, sources of ideas and materials, and assistance in developing and implementing an
urban child pedestrian safety program. Appendices include a list of references, NHTSA regional
offices and State highway safety offices, and a checklist for pedestrian safety in an individual
community.
