DESCRIPTION: This study examines alcohol as a factor in fatal pedestrian collisions. It concludes that intoxicated pedestrians who are killed are more likely male, aged 25 to 64, in an accident between 12 midnight and 6 AM, on a rural roadway, away from an intersection, with the striking vehicle being a passenger car, light truck, or a hit and run vehicle. Possible strategies for a reduction in deaths are discussed. A list of references is included.
