DESCRIPTION:
This study discusses how a City, County, or Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) best can
create a bicycle/pedestrian coordinator position. An overview of existing programs and people,
together with the survey used to gather the information is included. The "model"
bicycle/pedestrian coordinator position, program, and person are described, including a discussion
of the pros and cons of combining bicycle and pedestrian concerns. Necessary skills, education,
and training needed by the coordinator are highlighted. A sample work plan for low-cost
programs, a sample job notice, and a list of references are attached.
