TITLE: The Role of Alcohol Involvement in Fatal Pedestrian Collisions AUTHOR: James C. Fell and B. Grace Hazzard, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NUMBER: YEAR: 1985 FORMAT: Proceedings of the American Association For Automotive Medicine Conference LENGTH: 21 pages FEE: INTENDED
AUDIENCE:Pedestrian Program Coordinators, Safety Activists
DESCRIPTION: This study examines alcohol as a factor in fatal pedestrian collisions. It concludes that intoxicated pedestrians who are killed are more likely male, aged 25 to 64, in an accident between 12 midnight and 6 AM, on a rural roadway, away from an intersection, with the striking vehicle being a passenger car, light truck, or a hit and run vehicle. Possible strategies for a reduction in deaths are discussed. A list of references is included.
