Demonstration Project No. 115 is a technology transfer project that provides technical guidance in the conduct of LCCA in pavement design and introduces a risk analysis approach as the method of choice in the treatment of uncertainty. This project provides information and technical support in the conduct of LCCA in pavement design.
Case studies of the application of Risk Analysis to LCCA in pavement design are being developed as part of DP-115. The objective of these case studies is to develop risk analysis models and conduct an anaysis of actual state projects. The following States and industries are participating in this effort.
Each participant has been trained in advanced risk analysis techniques. While DP-115 focuses on the use of risk analysis as applied to LCCA, it is believed the principles and techniques put forth offer potential in other areas where uncertainty is an important consideration in the decision making process. Therefore, DP-115 also examines probabilistic concepts on other areas of pavement engineering, such as pavement structural design, mixture design, and in the development of pavement performance specifications. It is envisioned that these case studies may be included in the DP-115 workshop materials, as well as lay the framework for a general pavement design LCCA model incorporating risk analysis concepts. For case study information on the application of Risk Analysis to Life Cycle Cost Analysis in pavement, please visit DP115 on the Web.
