Using products of the Strategic Highway Research Program to build better, safer roads

December 1998

Lead States Go Online

Over the past 2 years, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Lead States team members have sponsored workshops, published brochures and other materials, released training videos, and generally been on call to assist other States in implementing the products of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP). Now to broaden their outreach, they have launched the new Lead States Web site (leadstates.tamu.edu).

The Web site features information on the activities of each of the seven Lead States teams

  • alkali-silica reactivity
  • anti-icing/road weather information systems
  • concrete assessment and rehabilitation
  • high-performance concrete
  • innovative pavement maintenance materials
  • pavement preservation
  • the Superpave system

This information includes details on research projects, field trials, upcoming workshops and other events, and publications, as well as contact information for Lead State team members. Visitors to the site can also participate in question and answer discussion groups.

For more information, contact Bill Carr at the Washington State Department of Transportation, 360-705-7802 (fax: 360-705-6889; email: carrb@wsdot.wa.gov) or Wilfrid Nixon at the University of Iowa, 319-335-5166 (fax: 319-335-5660; email: wilfrid-nixon@uiowa.edu).
